Program Planning
The school's curriculum design is based on a "child-centered" approach, respecting the principle of early childhood development, compiling a diversified curriculum, and adopting an "age-appropriate, quantity-appropriate, and appropriate" teaching strategy to cultivate young children's interests and abilities, so that they can enjoy diversified teaching activities, learn through play, and experience the joy of active learning.
KIS emphasizes on character development and has been promoting positive education to build up children's positive emotions, happiness and sense of well-being. We also emphasize the development of children's sense of art, through visual arts and music programs to cultivate children's cultural literacy, and nurture children's cultivation and temperament. For children's language development, KIS actively cultivates their reading habits and implements a reading program to encourage individual and parent-child reading, and is committed to assisting children in laying a solid foundation of language skills at an early age.
The school follows the Kindergarten Education Curriculum Guide (2017) in planning its curriculum and will not require children in the Nursery class to write in pen and pencil, nor will it allow children to do mechanical copying or drill-based calculation exercises.
Through joyful learning theme activities and child-centered exploratory activities, group learning is implemented to develop children's multiple intelligences and nurture their language, audio-visual, physical and artistic development through interactions between teachers and classmates. Free play and self-selected activities are also provided for children to learn planning, practicing and reviewing, encouraging independent learning and soft skills (e.g. time allocation, problem solving, collaboration and communication skills). The STEM curriculum is integrated into the program, and children's logical thinking is nurtured through interesting and life-oriented teaching materials.
The Learning Profile is a continuous assessment and summative report of a child's development that incorporates the Multiple Intelligences (MI) assessment.
The school will comply with theKindergarten Education Curriculum GuidelinesThe (2017) Planning Curriculum will not require children in nursery classes to write in pen and pencil, nor will they be required to do mechanical transcription or drill-based numeracy exercises.
