Learning and Teaching Strategies :
- Small class sizes - with an average class size of 28 students, teacher-student and student-student interactions are enhanced by reducing the teacher-student ratio.
- Self-directed Learning - We are committed to building a culture of student preparation in all subjects and at all levels, with the expectation that students will be prepared for and actively participate in the classroom to enhance learning effectiveness. MAPS teaching methodology is introduced in the Chinese Language subject, which is combined with the design of school-based guided learning programs to guide students to learn independently.
- Lesson Preparation and Cooperative Learning - Students are encouraged to participate in the classroom, emphasizing the importance of co-construction of knowledge. Teachers use different pedagogical methods to promote collaboration among students in the classroom, so that students can grasp the key points of the lesson and fully understand the subject knowledge.
- E-learning - Flexible use of IT platforms, appropriate use of tablets and various teaching apps to enhance classroom efficiency.
- Semester system - S1 and S2 students have the opportunity to study different subjects in each semester. Compared with other schools that offer a full range of subjects, the semester system not only reduces the pressure of homework and examinations, but also focuses the lesson time so that students can gain a deeper understanding of each subject and topic.
- Creative Education - The junior high school curriculum includes Thinking Methods and STEM programs to stimulate students' creativity and critical thinking for the future development of our society.
Teacher professional training and development:
Keesung has a team of professional and caring Christian teachers who are committed to providing quality educational opportunities and effective evangelistic outreach to students. Teachers will receive professional education and training during regular development days and overseas professional exchange experiences to build a growing team of leaders. 2022-2023 Teacher Development Priorities:
- Learning and Teaching: The promotion of "Independent Learning" continued, with particular attention to lesson preparation and classroom interaction. All subjects optimize teachers' teaching skills through "lesson study" and design quality lessons that are interactive and cater for learning differences. Regular open lectures and classroom discussions are organized to enhance professional exchanges and build up learning communities through peer observation.
- Student Formation: We will continue to promote "Life Education", especially the "Iceberg Theory" and "Positive Education".
- Extension of collaboration with the Quality School Improvement Program (QSIP) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Whole School Participation Model Integrated Education:
In order to help students with special learning needs to adapt to secondary school life and learn interpersonal skills, the school has set up a social group, a peer counseling program, and a learning and examination skills enhancement group. The school also has three resident social workers and a full-time educational psychologist to support students' needs, and the class teacher and subject teachers also listen to parents' views and review students' progress in a timely manner.
Educational support for non-Chinese speaking students:
The School provides additional support to the admitted NCS students to help them learn Chinese: employing additional teachers/teaching assistants to support NCS students' Chinese language learning; and organizing cultural integration activities.
School facilities:
The school has 35 classrooms. Special teaching facilities include an English self-learning center, a mathematics interactive teaching room, a STEM teaching room, four science laboratories, an innovative science laboratory, and a computer room.
