In recent years, the school has redefined its whole-school language policy to actively improve students' Chinese and English language proficiency so that they can excel in public examinations. The school provides students with a rich language learning environment, including weekly English morning assemblies, and cultivates students' ability to master "biliteracy and trilingualism" through school-wide Chinese and English speech contests, reading programs, multi-media language learning, campus broadcasting, English dramas, debate competitions, English activity classes, and English creative writing, etc. The school actively cooperates with the fine-tuning of the medium of instruction (MOI) policy. The school has a simple school ethos and emphasizes the cultivation of moral character. Through civic education and volunteer work, students will become good citizens with proper concepts and a sense of responsibility. In terms of discipline, the school adopts a policy of "both teaching and discipline", hoping that students will be self-disciplined, courteous and sensible.
Learning and Teaching Strategies :
The school provides "whole-person education". In the classroom, teachers' questioning skills and group discussions enhance students' interest and participation in learning. In addition to teaching subject knowledge and skills, the school also actively fosters students' social awareness, sense of responsibility, values and national identity.
Teacher professional training and development:
The Teacher Development Committee (TDC) is responsible for coordinating the professional development of teachers. In addition to encouraging professional development, the TDC organizes various seminars, exchanges and sharing sessions on a regular basis. Teachers of all subjects conduct "collaborative teaching" to exchange teaching experience and promote the effectiveness of classroom teaching.
Whole School Participation Model Integrated Education:
The school supports students with SEN through the "Student Support Team" and maintains contact with parents to provide professional advice. For example, regular activities such as Social Thinking Groups, Speech Training Groups, Individual Training Groups and Executive Skills Training Groups are organized, and Parents' Tea Cafes are arranged to explore different topics with parents to enhance the communication between parents and the school. Members of the group include the Special Educational Needs Coordinator, Special Educational Needs Support Teacher, Educational Psychologist, School Social Worker, Director of Growth Education Department, Guidance Counselor, Head of Academic Affairs Department, and representatives of teachers of different subjects.
Every year, the school will also arrange teachers to attend courses organized by the Education Bureau (EDB) that cater for different learning needs, including basic, advanced and thematic courses, so as to enhance teachers' understanding of students with special educational needs (SEN), their ways of communicating with such students and relevant teaching skills, and to raise their sensitivity towards students with SEN.
In order to enhance the understanding of class teachers and subject teachers about the situation of individual students with SEN and to discuss support and remedial measures, the support team exchanged views with class teachers and subject teachers on the learning situation of the students concerned and discussed the support measures with them before the start of the new school year. In addition, the school makes use of the Learning Support Grant provided by the Education Bureau to employ counselors to carry out systematic counseling work, so that students can receive more comprehensive care.
Educational support for non-Chinese speaking students:
The school provides additional support to the admitted NCS students to help them learn Chinese: providing after-school Chinese learning support; employing additional teachers/teaching assistants to support NCS students' Chinese language learning; and organizing cultural integration activities.
