The school adopts English as the medium of instruction for all subjects except Religious Ethics and Liberal Studies (please refer to the information on the subjects offered in the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school years for more details), except for Religious Ethics and Liberal Studies which are taught in the mother tongue in order to enhance the cultivation of character and the development of multi-faceted thinking.
Tests and study adaptation measures:
There is one test and one examination in each of the first and second semesters. In addition to tests and examinations, the school also emphasizes on continuous assessment, with tests and continuous assessment taking up about 30%-40% and examinations taking up about 60%-70%.
S.1 to S.3: Passes in Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics are required for promotion to a higher class. The school culture is simple and honest, and the relationship between teachers and students is cordial.
The Counseling Section is organized by the Head Counselor, who is responsible for helping new students to adapt to secondary school life. For Forms 1 to 4, there is a system of dual class teachers who meet with students and liaise with parents on a regular basis, in order to enhance students' learning and cultivate students' moral development.
Learning and Teaching Strategies :
- In order to develop students' ability for lifelong learning, life-wide learning has been implemented in all subjects by introducing different types of activities, such as joint debate competitions, field trips, participation in public lectures, etc., so as to enable students to step out of the classroom and broaden their horizons.
- Learning strategy training courses are organized at all levels and cooperative learning is implemented at all levels.
- In addition, in order to cultivate students' active learning attitude, a three-year progressive thinking and learning skills training is implemented in junior secondary schools to enhance students' learning effectiveness through organizing relevant workshops and feedback sessions.
Teacher professional training and development:
- It is the common goal of the teaching staff to optimize the classroom and lead students to face challenges.
- Apart from participating in the School-based Support Programmes organized by the Education Bureau to introduce different teaching methods, the subject teams also actively promote collaborative teaching and encourage lesson observation and exchange, so as to enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning.
Whole School Participation Model Integrated Education:
The School is committed to building an inclusive culture and adopting a Whole School Approach in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN). Through the use of the Learning Support Grant and community resources, students are provided with appropriate and diversified support services to enhance their learning effectiveness and facilitate their integration into school life.
The school's Special Learning Team consists of counselors, teachers, teaching assistants, social workers and educational psychologists.
The school provides appropriate support for students with SEN, such as arranging teaching assistants, with the assistance of teachers, to provide after-school homework guidance for students in need; organizing learning and social training groups, with school-based educational psychologists to provide curricular and pedagogical support; and providing learning, homework and test accommodations for students in need, as well as organizing Individual Learning Plan (ILP) meetings to help students design specific and practicable support plans through cross-group collaboration meetings. The School provides additional support to the admitted NCS students to help them learn Chinese: employing additional teachers/teaching assistants to support NCS students' Chinese language learning; arranging intensive Chinese language teaching modes (e.g. pull-out learning, small group learning, etc.); developing school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapting teaching materials; and organizing cultural integration activities.
