With regard to the fine-tuning of the medium of instruction policy, the school has made use of the time for English language extended learning activities to turn it into a subject by using English to teach the junior secondary school's "Social Studies" subject, so as to help students consolidate the foundation of the English language. Additional expatriate teachers were recruited to assist the school in developing English language teaching and organizing English language activities. Students' language fundamentals are strengthened through extensive reading programs in English and Chinese, debates, recitation and drama.
Tests and study adaptation measures:
There are two standardized tests, two examinations and continuous assessment for each subject in each school year. Teacher professional training and development:
The school has established the Teacher Appraisal System as an on-going process of identifying, evaluating and developing teachers' performance, with a view to motivating teachers to promote their professional development and enhancing their professionalism through the exchange of ideas. The school conducts three Teacher Development Days and three Teacher Learning Circles in each school year, and organizes timely teacher development activities according to students' growth support and teaching needs, so that teachers can respond to the needs of their students and enhance their teaching effectiveness. Teachers are encouraged to participate in refresher courses, workshops, seminars and school-based support programmes organized by the Education Bureau or other educational institutions. Through various forms of lesson observation and collaborative lesson planning meetings, teachers are assisted in formulating appropriate teaching plans and sharing their teaching experience with each other. Whole School Participation Model Integrated Education:
The School is committed to building an inclusive culture and adopting a Whole School Approach in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN). Through the utilization of the Capacity Enhancement Grant, Learning Support Grant, Top-up Fund and community resources, appropriate and diversified support services are provided to students to enhance their learning effectiveness and facilitate their integration into school life. The school's SEN Support Team consists of the SEN Co-ordinator, Counseling Officer, Educational Psychologist, teachers, student counselors and teaching assistants. The Support Team works in collaboration with other sections of the school to support students in need. Schools will identify students with SEN at an early stage and provide them with appropriate support according to their SEN and the views of various stakeholders, e.g. after-school tutorials, pre-test tutorials, social training groups; curriculum and teaching support by school-based educational psychologists; individualized learning plans for students with needs; speech therapy services; learning, homework and test-taking surveys for students with needs. In addition, the school makes good use of the community resources to provide students with learning, homework and test accommodations, and arranges inclusive activities.
