School-wide language policy:

The school uses English as the medium of instruction. All lessons and school activities (except for the subject of Chinese Language Education and Chinese History) are conducted in English. At Key Stage 3, the Chinese Language subject and related activities are conducted in Putonghua, while at Key Stage 4, the Chinese Language subject, Chinese History at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 are conducted in Cantonese. To enhance classroom interaction and to strengthen students' language foundation, some core and non-core subjects are taught in small classes at all levels.

To create a rich language learning environment, the school encourages students to use English or Putonghua to communicate on campus. Through organizing different language activities (e.g. debates, drama, musicals, reading, speeches, etc.), the school aims to cultivate and enhance students' "biliteracy and trilingualism".

Whole School Participation Model Integrated Education:

Tokwang School is committed to a Whole School Approach to support students with special educational needs (SEN). Through the use of the Learning Support Grant, we aim to enhance their learning effectiveness and help them integrate into school life.

The Student Guidance Team of the school consists of a school counselor and seven teachers from different learning areas. In addition, the school also employed the psychological service provided by the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong's Educational Psychology Service - Private cum Kindergarten Educational Psychology Service and the on-site school-based consultation service provided by the Society for the Promotion of Mental Health in the Community. Tests and adjustments are provided on the basis of professional advice.

The school emphasizes home-school co-operation and has established a regular communication mechanism with parents through e-platforms, face-to-face interviews and phone calls to support students with SEN.

Educational support for non-Chinese speaking students:

The school provides additional support for admitted NCS students to learn Chinese: providing after-school Chinese learning support; arranging intensive Chinese teaching modes (e.g. pull-out learning, small group learning, etc. on a need basis); developing school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapting teaching materials; organizing cultural integration activities; and, in the context of the implementation of Putonghua teaching in all grades (i.e., in all classes/groups) in the school, providing additional support on a need basis (e.g. (e.g. pull-out/group learning, phonics teaching materials, etc.). The school also employs additional teachers to support NCS students in Chinese language learning.

The Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA) System consists of two phases: Discretionary Places Allocation (DP) and Central Allocation (CA).
Discretionary places refer to S1 places reserved by schools for self-admission of students. Government, aided and caput secondary schools are allowed to reserve S1 places not exceeding 30%, while DSS secondary schools are allowed to reserve S1 places exceeding 30%.
The application period for the 2024 Discretionary Places is from January 2 to January 16, 2024. All secondary schools participating in the Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA) System (participating secondary schools) will accept applications during the same period. Parents of current Primary 6 students participating in the Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA) will receive two copies of the Application Form for Secondary 1 Discretionary Places in early December 2023 through their children's elementary school.
