School-wide language policy:
The school emphasizes the development of biliteracy and trilingualism in its students, with English as the main medium of instruction in some of the junior secondary classes. (Please refer to the information on the subjects offered by the school for details). For a number of subjects at junior secondary level, including Mathematics, Integrated Science, General Computer Studies, Life and Society: Resources and Economic Activities* (S.3), Geography and History, the school will use English or supplement it with English Extended Learning Activities according to the ability of the students, so as to enable the students to build up a good foundation of English at junior secondary level. The school makes good use of continuous assessment to understand the English proficiency of students and provide appropriate support to enhance students' English proficiency. The English Department has organized special learning activities for each level of junior secondary school, such as the English Healthy Eating Cooking Competition and the English Fashion Design Competition, etc., so as to enable students to enhance their oral language skills and develop teamwork spirit. The school also strives to optimize the language atmosphere. In addition to the language activities organized by the Chinese and English subjects every year, students also participate in English and Putonghua morning assembly announcements and sharing, so that students can learn languages through diversified activities. Learning and Teaching Strategies :
The teaching team is committed to becoming a learning community, emphasizing professional discussion and teaching effectiveness. The school promotes professional development measures such as lesson observation and exchange, collaborative lesson planning, group discussions, lesson study periods and open lectures, so that all teachers can observe each other (in the same subject or cross-subjects), reflect on and review their teaching and learning effectiveness. The school attaches great importance to the professional development of teachers and encourages them to pursue continuous learning by setting up lesson study sessions in the school timetable, organizing school-based teacher seminars and workshops from time to time, as well as organizing teacher exchange tours and other activities, so as to enhance the professionalism and broaden the horizons of teachers.
Whole School Participation Model Integrated Education:
The school adopts a Whole School Approach to IE. The Special Education Learning Support Team (SELST), led by the Coordinator, comprises the Deputy Principal, the Assistant Principal cum Guidance Officer, the Academic Affairs Officer, the Support Teachers, the Guidance Counselor, the Social Worker, the Educational Psychologist, the Speech Therapist and other relevant teachers, to provide support to the students with special educational needs. The school utilizes the Learning Support Grant to employ counselors to provide appropriate support to students, and also purchases speech therapy services and other group activities to provide students with appropriate training, including literacy training, social skills training, concentration training and counseling services. We also take care of students' learning differences by providing them with accommodation in schoolwork and tests to help enhance the learning effectiveness of students with special educational needs (SEN).
As for the teaching team, the school regularly disseminates information on integrated education to all teachers, organizes thematic seminars, arranges and encourages teachers to enroll in relevant courses, and holds meetings with teachers as necessary to coordinate the special needs of individual students and enhance the professional competence of teachers.
The school emphasizes home-school co-operation and has established a regular communication mechanism through face-to-face meetings, sunshine phone calls and electronic platforms to discuss and review the support strategies for students.
