As an authorized school of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, the school incorporates local and international issues into the curriculum and adopts six super-subject themes to enable students to learn to think from multiple perspectives. The use of information technology in teaching and learning enables students to acquire knowledge as well as the learning skills needed in the 21st century.

Course Tailoring and Adaptation Measures:
In UOI, teachers design a variety of activities on different topics to train students' speaking, writing and presentation skills in a way that is very different from examinations. Apart from providing basic guidance, teachers also encourage students to utilize innovative ways to complete assignments so that they can demonstrate and develop their potential in different areas.
Educational support for non-Chinese speaking students:
The school provides additional support to the admitted NCS students to help them learn Chinese: providing after-school Chinese language learning support; employing additional teachers/teaching assistants to support NCS students' Chinese language learning; arranging intensive Chinese language teaching modes (e.g. pull-out learning, group/small group learning, etc. on a need basis); developing school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapting teaching materials; organizing inclusive school activities; and providing additional support (e.g. pull-out learning, pinyin teaching materials, etc.) to NCS students in implementing Putonghua teaching at all levels in the school on a need basis, i.e. in all classes/groups.
