Learning and Teaching Strategies :
With the advantage of "Small Class Teaching" and adapted teaching strategies, teachers design interesting and meaningful learning activities according to the learning needs of students, allowing students to explore problems, discuss and study among peers and develop their creativity, while teachers also provide appropriate feedback in class to help students construct new knowledge. Interdisciplinary learning activities with different themes, such as Thanksgiving Day activities, Chinese Culture and Science Inquiry Week, etc., are planned to cultivate students' active learning attitude.
Life-wide Learning:
Planning is based on the Multiple Intelligences: Language, Mathematics and Logical Reasoning, Nature, Visual Spatial, Interpersonal, Physical Activity, Music and Performing Arts, which include: Clock Piano Team, Percussion Team, Visual Arts Class, Latin Dance, Martial Arts, Flower Rope, Ball Games, Athletic Training, English Class, Mathematics Class, Computer Programming, Girl Guides, and Flag-raising Crews.
Course Tailoring and Adaptation Measures:
1. to make course cuts and adjustments in co-curricular preparation.
2. to develop an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) for students with special educational needs (SEN), and to make adjustments to weekday lessons, homework and assessments.
Educational support for non-Chinese speaking students:
The school provides additional support to its admitted NCS students to help them learn Chinese: providing after-school Chinese learning support; employing additional teachers/teaching assistants to support NCS students' Chinese language learning; organizing inclusive school activities; employing additional staff and/or procuring additional translation/interpretation services to facilitate communication with parents; and providing additional support as needed in the implementation of universal education in all grades (i.e., all classes/groups) in the school. (e.g. pull-out/group learning, phonics teaching materials, etc.).
Home school cooperation:
The school maintains close contact with parents and regularly organizes parent seminars and parent academies to provide parents with support and a platform for communication. The Parent-Teacher Association of the school is well-developed and often organizes diversified activities, such as parent-child trips, workshops and interest classes, to enable parents to master parent-child communication skills and self-enhancement.
Environmental Policy:
The school has set up three-color recycling bins and printer cartridge recycling to encourage students to participate in environmental protection through different channels. Students also bring their own recyclable tableware for lunch. Apart from using environmentally friendly materials to make lunch boxes, the lunch suppliers also help students to recycle food waste.
