Is St. Margaret's Co-educational English Primary and Secondary School good?

School Wind:

The school has a simple culture that emphasizes students' moral cultivation and the "unity of discipline and guidance". Teachers use love and patience as the scripture, while parents use care and expectation as the latitude, which are interwoven into a "student-centered" education.

Learning and Teaching Strategies :

Emphasis is placed on triliteracy and quadrilingualism. Major subjects include English, Chinese (taught in Putonghua), Modern Languages (including French, German, Japanese and Spanish), Mathematics, General Studies and Information Technology. Project-based learning and diversified learning activities are used to enhance students' interest in learning and develop their self-learning ability, encourage independent thinking, and foster their creativity and collaboration. Major subjects are taught at the same time to minimize learning differences.

Life-wide Learning:

The program offers a variety of talent classes to explore different potentials. Participation in one of the uniformed teams such as Boys and Girls Scouts, EDB Community Cadet Corps, Traffic Safety Team or Junior Police Call, as well as Dance Team, Speech, Choir, Symphony, Ball Games and Science Club is required. To enhance self-image and self-confidence by achieving results in activities or competitions.

Course Tailoring and Adaptation Measures:

We have implemented the English Phonetic Program: English Pinyin is taught from P.1 to P.4, and the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) is taught from P.6 to S.1; we have established a comprehensive Gifted Education Program, arranging classes according to the needs of the gifted and talented students, and consistently implementing the policy of "pulling out the best to compensate for the weakest"; we have produced school-based English teaching materials to cater for the needs of students of different levels of learning; and we have made curriculum adaptations for all subjects to help students adapt to the curriculum more quickly and enhance their learning effectiveness.

Educational support for non-Chinese speaking students:

The school provides additional support to the admitted NCS students to help them learn Chinese: providing after-school Chinese language learning support; employing additional teachers/teaching assistants to support NCS students' Chinese language learning; arranging intensive Chinese language teaching modes (e.g. pull-out learning, group/small group learning, etc. on a need basis); developing school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapting teaching materials; organizing inclusive school activities; and providing additional support (e.g. pull-out learning, pinyin teaching materials, etc.) to NCS students in implementing Putonghua teaching at all levels in the school on a need basis, i.e. in all classes/groups. Provide additional support (e.g. pull-out/group learning, pinyin teaching materials, etc.) as necessary for the implementation of PTH in all grades (i.e. all classes/groups) in the school.

Home school cooperation:

The school works with parents to strengthen students' character and academics; and promotes parent education. A dual classroom teacher system is in place. Parent-teacher conferences and activities are held several times a year to promote mutual understanding.

Environmental Policy:

In response to the "Earth Hour" campaign, we have also received funding from the Environmental Protection Department to purchase a food waste machine and to teach the concepts of "food saving" and recycling. We have also won the Green School Award and the Water Consciousness School Project Award.
