School Wind:
Adhering to the spirit of Christianity and the school motto of "Honoring God and Loving People", we hope to guide students to establish a holistic life direction, moral and ethical values, and the way of dealing with others, as well as the awareness of family, society, and the nation based on the truths of the Bible in the fast-changing world, so that all students and teachers can learn and grow happily in a healthy and harmonious campus that honors God, respects oneself, and loves others.
Learning and Teaching Strategies :
The school has implemented the "G21 Empowerment Learning in YCIS". In order to provide appropriate strategies and support for the implementation of "Empowerment Learning", we have established an electronic interactive cross-temporal learning platform by using "Google" with diversified teaching strategies. Through this platform, teachers will design a variety of teaching materials according to the individual needs of students, such as instructional videos, classroom broadcasts, interactive questionnaires, live broadcasts of activities, notes, tests, etc., so that students can preview before class, ask questions, discuss with teachers and classmates inside and outside the classroom, do exercises, homework and tests, etc., so as to enable students to receive timely feedback, consolidate their learning, and practice empowered learning. In addition, in order to prevent the labeling effect, students are grouped into classes according to a mixture of different abilities. However, in order to cater for individual differences, Chinese, English and Mathematics are divided into small groups according to their abilities.
Teacher professional training and development:
We have an excellent professional teaching team, with all teachers possessing degrees and professional qualifications, and more than 40% of them have completed a master's or doctoral degree. All English and Putonghua teachers have passed the Language Proficiency Assessment, and they are actively involved in different courses to enhance their professional knowledge outside the classroom. The latest External School Review (ESR) report on our teachers says, "Teachers care about their students and have a good teacher-student relationship. In-school support measures for students are varied and enhance students' self-confidence."
With the implementation of "G21 Empowerment Learning" in YCIS, nearly 100 teachers of the school have obtained Google Certified Educator Level 1, many teachers have completed Level 2 certification and many teachers have obtained GoogleTrainer qualification.
Whole School Participation Model Integrated Education:
The IE team of the school consists of the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo), IE support teachers and social workers. The IE Team provides support and training to teachers in a well-planned manner, and adapts appropriate curriculum and assessment for students with SEN (including local and non-Chinese speaking (NCS) students), so that students with different needs can be taken care of in a timely manner in their learning and development. The Integrated Education Team communicates with parents of students with SEN from time to time to listen to their views and report on the learning progress of the students. In addition, the school utilizes the Learning Support Grant and the Support Grant for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and invites professionals or teams outside the school to provide support and counselling to students with special educational needs. The support services provided by the school include Chinese and English reading and writing training courses, focus group, social training group and support group for NCS students with SEN, etc. The school has also provided a number of support services to students with special educational needs, such as the learning and development of the students with SEN.
Educational support for non-Chinese speaking students:
The School provides additional support to the admitted NCS students to facilitate their Chinese language learning: employing additional teachers/teaching assistants to support NCS students' Chinese language learning; arranging intensive Chinese language teaching modes (e.g. pull-out learning, small group learning, etc.); developing school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapting teaching materials; and organizing cultural integration activities.
