Learning and Teaching Strategies :

  • Rose Heights Secondary School offers a comprehensive and balanced curriculum that caters to the needs of students of different aptitudes and prepares them for further studies.
  • The school has developed a diversified school-based medium of instruction (MOI) strategy in a favorable multicultural context. Mathematics and Science are taught in English. At the same time, the school will further optimize the curriculum and activities of English Language and other subjects to enhance students' English learning ability and interest. In recent years, the overall results obtained by the school in the English Language subject in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination (i.e. Level 2 or above and Level 4 or above) are also above the territory-wide standard.

Teachers make individual professional development plans at the beginning of the school year. At the same time, the school has procured speech therapy service, socialization group and other competency-based training groups to provide training for students with special educational needs. The school provides additional support to the admitted NCS students to help them learn Chinese: providing after-school Chinese learning support; arranging intensive Chinese teaching modes (e.g. pull-out learning, small group learning, etc.); developing school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapting teaching materials; and organizing cultural integration activities. The spacious 14,000-square-meter campus has five basketball courts, 31 classrooms, a library and 27 special rooms, including three computer rooms, a geography room, two home economics rooms, two visual arts rooms, two religion rooms, seven laboratories and a STEM room. The new 7-storey new wing of the school building is well-equipped to equip students to face the challenges of the 21st century, with lecture halls, computer rooms, music rooms, dance rehearsal rooms, student activity rooms, conference rooms, etc. to provide more space and facilities for teaching and activities. A new gymnasium has been built to support the development of students in other learning experiences. There are also two cafeterias for all students to have meals at school.

The Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA) System consists of two phases: Discretionary Places Allocation (DP) and Central Allocation (CA).
Discretionary places refer to S1 places reserved by schools for self-admission of students. Government, aided and caput secondary schools are allowed to reserve S1 places not exceeding 30%, while DSS secondary schools are allowed to reserve S1 places exceeding 30%.
The application period for the 2024 Discretionary Places is from January 2 to January 16, 2024. All secondary schools participating in the Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA) System (participating secondary schools) will accept applications during the same period. Parents of current Primary 6 students participating in the Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA) will receive two copies of the Application Form for Secondary 1 Discretionary Places in early December 2023 through their children's elementary school.
