School Wind:
The school's ethos is simple and unassuming. The school has set up a Discipline Unit and a Counseling Unit to focus on the character and development of the students, and to help them develop a positive outlook on life and correct values.
Learning and Teaching Strategies :
Comprehensive and balanced development is emphasized. The school emphasizes academics as well as sports, arts and extracurricular activities, and provides students with both integrity and leadership skills. Biliteracy, trilingualism and mathematics are emphasized, and the nine generic skills are developed through academic subjects and extra-curricular activities. The Chinese and English subjects actively promote an extensive reading program to encourage students to read extensively. The Library has implemented a collaborative program with various subjects to enable students to make effective use of library resources to support their learning. The senior secondary school offers a diversified curriculum with a wide range of physical education, music and extra-curricular activities to train students' multiple intelligences. The school's English and Chinese Debate Teams have won a number of awards in various competitions and are recognized for their outstanding performance. The school also emphasizes on career planning for students, and organizes seminars, exchanges, visits, etc. for students of different grades, so as to enable them to identify their aptitudes, interests and abilities, so that they can move towards excellence and develop their personalities and potentials to the fullest. In addition, at the junior high school level, the school offers STEM education to enhance students' interest in learning science, technology and mathematics, and to develop their ability to integrate and apply knowledge and skills, creativity, collaboration and problem solving.
Teacher professional training and development:
The school attaches great importance to the professional training and development of teachers. In addition to organizing in-school and joint-school teacher development days, the school also conducts exchanges outside the country (in recent years, it has visited the Mainland, Taiwan, and Japan), and encourages teachers to pursue further studies by providing special study grants for teachers to apply. Through different forms of professional development programs for teachers, the quality of teaching and learning is enhanced, peer observation and exchange are encouraged, and the sustainable development of the school is promoted. Cultivating high quality students with good moral, academic and aptitude qualities is the goal of the school's teacher professional training and development.
Whole School Participation Model Integrated Education:
The Student Support Team of the School is responsible for planning, implementing and reviewing the support for IE. The Student Support Team comprises the Guidance Counselor, the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, the School Social Worker and the Resident Psychologist, and adopts the concept of "Whole School Approach" to promote class participation: class teachers, subject teachers and subject teachers are encouraged to work together to formulate support measures for students with SEN, and parents and educational psychologists are invited to attend case conferences to follow up on the support work as necessary. With the consent of parents, the School collects information on new S1 students with SEN to facilitate early identification of students' SEN and arrangement of appropriate support for them. Students with suspected SEN are also screened and referred to educational psychologists for follow-up. The school makes flexible use of the Learning Support Grant for outsourced services such as speech therapy, social training groups, group and individual counseling, and employs teaching assistants to provide appropriate support for students with SEN. The school also arranged special education training courses and seminars for teachers to enhance their professional capacity in catering for students with SEN.
Educational support for non-Chinese speaking students:
The school provides additional support to the admitted NCS students to help them learn Chinese: see the section on Whole School Approach to Integrated Education.
